This is a deck of cards that offer hundreds of storytelling prompts for Game Masters, solo roleplayers, improvisers, and fiction writers. Mix and match them to create millions of unique adventure ideas!
This is a simple system that enables you to effortlessly generate unlimited ideas for locations, characters, and adventures.
Each adventure recipe can be used as the goal the heroes will pursue throughout the adventure, or an evil plan of the antagonist that the heroes must thwart:
Defeat The Monster might mean that the heroes must hunt down an evil vampire, or it might mean that an evil dragon hunter wants to kill a baby dragon, and the heroes must stop him.
You can draw multiple adventure recipe cards to combine them into more complex adventure ideas:
Defeat The Monster + Rescue The Captive = The heroes have to defeat the monster who has captured someone, and help the captive to safely escape.
You can use some recipes as a sub-goals for the other recipes in order to create a campaign (or a more challenging adventure):
To Defeat The Monster, the heroes must:
- Obtain an Artifact (the only weapon that can slay it).
- Destroy a Dangerous Target (the source of its power).
- Commandeer a Vehicle (the only way to reach the monster's lair).
Each recipe has a list of 12 challenges. Every time you create an adventure, you can randomly select 3-5 challenges the heroes will encounter on their journey, and combine them with randomly generated locations and characters, to make each adventure unique. That way, the number of adventures you can generate becomes truly limitless!
The most straightforward way is to draw two cards from the location (or the character) deck, and combine the location/character aspect with the location/character prompt:
Location: Cursed + Archive
Character: Vengeful + Bounty Hunter
You can also use the aspects separately, which creates more abstract prompts that are also very useful:
Location: Cursed place
Character: Vengeful person
You can combine the location and character prompts to make the location more interesting by defining its inhabitants:
Location: Cursed Archive inhabited by Bounty Hunters
Combine recipe cards with character cards to define their motivations:
Character: Vengeful Bounty Hunter who wants to Capture a Creature
Consider casting the character in the roles of an antagonist, an ally, a quest giver, even when this role doesn't seem to naturally fit the prompt:
As an good guy, the Vengeful Bounty Hunter can be looking for help with capturing and taming a sand worm, which is the only creature powerful enough to help him avenge his village destroyed by the evil empire.
